Sona R. Shah / Staff Attorney

Sona joined Neufeld Scheck & Brustin as a Staff Attorney in 2021.

Before joining NSB, Sona was Senior Counsel at a boutique law firm in New York City. In that role, Sona represented labor unions, local governmental entities, AI/AN tribes, consumers, and individual investors in class action and mass action litigation against corporate defendants.

In her prior practice, Sona was a leading member of a litigation team that achieved a $399 million settlement with pharmaceutical companies, in a class action alleging that the companies violated antitrust laws by participating in a $400 million reverse payment scheme to delay market entry of a generic antibiotic. She was recognized by the American Antitrust Institute in connection with her work on that case, receiving the Outstanding Antitrust Litigation Achievement by a Young Lawyer award. In connection with her antitrust practice, Sona has also been a member of the Committee to Support Antitrust Laws, the New York State Bar Association Antitrust Section’s Diversity and Inclusion Committee, and has spoken at the American Antitrust Institute’s annual Private Antitrust Enforcement Conference.

Sona also successfully litigated securities fraud class actions, including an action asserting that an oil company knew that poor maintenance of its facility would lead to an oil spill. She has expertise in matters involving electronic discovery, and was part of a team that achieved an $80 million settlement partially based on spoliation of electronically-stored information.

Sona has also worked at the Center for Constitutional Rights, where she dealt with issues including the protection of whistleblower speech under the First Amendment and the constitutionality of university affirmative action policies.
