Samiha Abd-Elazem / Paralegal

Samiha joined NSB as a paralegal in 2022. She graduated from the Johns Hopkins University, where she majored in Public Health and Political Science and minored in Social Policy. While at Hopkins, Samiha pursued the social policy fellowship where she researched and presented policy recommendations to increase access to substance abuse treatment programs in women’s prisons. She served on the Executive Board as Vice President and President for the Johns Hopkins Jail Tutorial Project (an organization that provides tutoring for former and current incarcerated people). She also served as a coordinator for Hear and Now, a program that promotes civic and political engagement among youth, and volunteered for many Baltimore community projects as an Alpha Phi Omega member. Previously, Samiha worked at the ACLU National Prison Project where she helped research various prison issues and contributed to a ACLU Research Report on Access to Counsel in US Immigraton Detention Centers. She also researched education and housing issues as an Intern at Westat Insight and a Research Assistant at the Poverty Inequality Research Lab (PIRL). In the future, Samiha hopes to continue working with former and current incarcerated people as a lawyer. Pronouns: She/Her
